A Disaster of a fun game

I love you new book
OK, so I played my first game of Warhammer Fantasy battle in years last Friday. It was a glorious disaster. We ended up not know a bunch of rules we ended up using, random things made the game whirl around for no reason. Mysterious terrain could have wrecked one side or the other. Random charge ranges saw me making charging long distances (first charge was 19 inches and barely made it). Magic was ridiculous. he would get 10-12 power dice, I would get like 5-6 and vise versa. His witch elves would stomp me down to a managable number only to have 16-20+ guys come back the next turn. The game was so random and was absolutely amazing at how fun it was. I faced something like this at 1500 pts

Lord
Cold one lord with ring of darkness, sword of ____ (toughness test or die)
Hero
Sorceress with 2 dispel scrolls.
Core
40 warriors with Light armor, shields, hand weapons FC
20 repeater crossbowmen Banner
Special
9 cold one knights. FC
25 witch elves  FC

zombies tarpited and killed all the witch elves over 4 turns. 40 warriors got munched by the black coach after it got regenerated and became ethereal, the cold one knights ate my black knights even after a charge and I killed his sorceress with my black coach after murdering the 40 man squad. Victory vampires.

So after our first game, we decided a rematch was an order. This time instead of dark elves, I play high elves in our proxy battle royal.

I get to face him -.-
All I really know is that its me versus Teclis. I have been doing a little looking into with him and its gonna be a blood bath of a game. The entire match boils down to if I am able to kill this man right there. His magical presence is so nasty and he is so many points, that if I can kill him, I pretty much win. If I can, my magic will just run rampant. The down side I hear about teclis is that he just isn't fun to play against. It turns into a game of warmahordes in killing the enemy caster pretty much nets you a win. My oppenents list (from what I am told) looks something like this

Lord
Teclis
Heros
BSB noble (sword masters)
Noble with a ring that makes all attacks magical (25 seaguard)
Core
25 Seaguard FC
20 Seaguard FC
Special
40 Sword masters

My list is something like this

Lord
Kemmler(Grave Guard)
Heros
Level 2 necronmancer with rod of flaming death (Skeletons)
Banshee (zombies)
Banshee (zombies)
core
5 dire wolves
5 dire wolves
30 zombies standard
30 zombies standard
30 skeletons FC screaming banner
special
30 grave guard, FC banner of barrows
5 hexwraiths
5 hexwraiths
rare
black coach

A breakdown of why I plan to run this stuff in my all comers list.
Kemmler- this guyis a beast simply because he is ethereal. Keep him away from magic weapon characters.

Necromancer, level 2, flaming rod of death- The unit stopper. If rod happens, that unit is stuck or dies horribly. Anti horde along with a curse of years.

2xBanshee- There was talk in the vampire less VC thread about making units better. I don't feel I need that. the zombies just need some way to drag people to death. banshees will help. granted they are now 190 pts instead of 95 combined, but Also, its nice to terror break people. If the zombies can break someone without a fight is a won fight. for the cost of 1 decently geared vampire, I can get a good unit buffer for both zombies. They just need ways to kill people, not win combat.

5 dire wolves-chaff drop

5 dire wolves- more chaff drop

30 zombies standard- chaff round two/tar pits/knight killers TERROR!

30 zombies standard- chaff round two/tar pits\knight killers TERROR!

30 skeletons , FC, Screaming banner- bunker/combat unit. Is meant to deal with anything but heavy cavalry. Then again

Special

30 grave guard, champion, banner of barrows-Mauling unit. Gets kemmler's buffs. on average, 3+ to hit, 2's to wound with 30 attacks with -3 to armor. need at least a 3+ to get a save other then parry. Killing blow can also wreck characters. now that the zombies have the power to deal with hard hitting cavalry, these guys work with dealing with strong hordes. they can take heavy cavalry, but they don't have to.

5 Hex wraiths- Chaff drop 3/terror bomb and fly through scything people, can kill armor heavy people and just get behind people for rear charges or flank charges . If you have a flank charge set up, simply move through them and set them next to the unit to flank charge a unit once thought safe. This forces them to reform and get that unit run through as well. It really can mess with an enemy. Also...Terror bomb!(I will just paint my black knights blue/green) TERROR!

5 Hex wraiths- Chaff drop 3/terror bomb TERROR!

Rare

Black coach- I love this model. Took 40 man Dark elf warriors yesterday for 5 turns. Can't get rid of him after that one. Is great when within 12 of the general, but it gets tougher when it goes ethereal. A good round of magic can see this thing regen 2-3 because of lore of vampires. TERROR!

Ok, so my list turned into a terror list. over half the list causes terror on the charge. Notice a lack of krell. I needed someone who could hurt horde better and rod of flaming death does just that. It either stops them from moving if it goes of or wrecks them completely. Also, if they fail their panic test, they burst into flame. Kentucky fried elves still can make good undead.
Huh.... didn't think this would actually exist...
A fight that starts with my opponents running is a win in my books. I want to try and put in another level 2 necromancer with a feedback scroll and just waste some poor caster someday, but I wont tailor to fight teclis. I am just gonna have to punch him in the face as soon as I possibly can. I have 4 vanguard units, 2 of which are ethereal cavalry that can run through other units to reach teclis if he is alone. Also, I can suicide into him and just aim everything at him. He must die, End of story

On a personal note, it is finals time here at East Tennessee State University so I may not be posting much else for this week and next week. I have to get finals done. Enjoy this post and happy gaming.

Time for our video battle reports. They take longer to put together then I thought they would. Its bob versus chad in this weeks battle report. 1750 dawn of war, annihilation game. Enjoy

And suddenly!
It was a great game at our local hobby shop. Gotta love the terrain and how much they support the community. I am currently putting together the report of me versus bob that follow immediately after.

Less robots in my undead armies, more undead in my undead armies

So I have a confession. I played war hammer fantasy. I have been for the better part of my life. I got my orginal vampires as a birthday/christmas/every holiday I could think of present when I turned thirteen.  If you think the stuff I have now looks terrible, you haven't seen the stuff I did when I was 13-15. I ended up with models from sarus infantry and the triceratops model, to silver helms. Instead of buying 5 blood knights, I bought an entire bretonia battle box. I even have ogre kingdoms when the 6th edition vampires book had mercs in in. This gave me the idea for my themed army. I am running frankenstein. here is the list

Lord

Heinrich Kemmler ( I have the original model)

Heros

Krell lord of undeath(I have the original model)

Troops

35 skeletons spears, full command, sceaming banner ( I have 35 skeletons with varied weapons. Few spears)

30 zombies standard (The old bret men at arms)

30 zombies standard(The old bret men at arms)

5 dire wolves(Mutant Dire wolves)

5 dire wolves(Mutant Dire wolves)

5 dire wolves(Mutant Dire wolves)

Special

10 black knights, barding, lances, full command, banner of barrows ( the silver helms/bret knights split at the waste and greenstuff'glued into their horses)

30 grave guard FC razor standard (Sarus infantry as mutant lizard men. States are even close)

rare

black coach/varghulf (the black coach is a model from one of my oldest friends. The varghulf is an old ogre kingdoms model I was using as a merc that has the standard which was a giant horned  goat head, the bear trap for his maw plate, and double cleavers.I love this old model)

After almost 10 years, I want to finish my fantasy army. I have the book and the will. Lets do this.

Tatics:The Necron Shuffle

Look what I found
Enough of the pirates.

Today, I wanted to talk about the tactic I have used to great success in my last two tournaments.

 The Necron Shuffle

Its a tactic from the Old Necron codex. The shuffle is simple. You spread half your army  across your deployment zone. In picthed battle, you deploy on the half your force on the left and half on the right. If you get dawn of war, you move on half your force in the same manner. If you get spear head, your first turn, you spread out with on side on left deployment, with the other half on the far right.
This  works because of my 1500 pt army composition. Splits perfectly down the middle , the army splits into the command barge, the ghost ark warrior squad, and a doomsday ark.

HQ

Royal court two

Troops

Doomsday arks

Doomsday arks

The overall tactic of the shuffle is to shift everything to take on half the force. You tar pit with the lords, demobilize, and shuffle to the side. My Old necrons did this with the monoliths teleporting and half my resrves of warriors from one side to the other. This results in one side being overloaded while the other side is left alone. It is simple and works really well. How you shuffle with New Necrons, you Flat out the command barge to where you need it. its a fast vehicle , so you can get a good distance with it. From there, one ghost arks moves either 12 inches into solitary to either bait your enemy or run them towards an objective, or 12 towards the other side to reinforce the others. The doomsday arks are bait and switch. They are there to either sit on the far side of the board and do shoot large templates of hot death until they are destroyed. Few people have the range to reach them. 72 inch range means that I can place one in the bottom left board edge to the far right corner.  The main idea is for everything to be on one side and leave your opponents half army on the other side. Because of the solar pulses, you have two rounds in which you are almost safe from enemy fire. you gotta demech so you can isolate and kill peoples armies.

For lack of a better analogy, think of it like this. Its the time warp. Look below.

Bad picture is bad I know.

Its mostly a jump to the left. Maybe a step to the right to convince them you are more spread out, put your hands on your hips to make sure you are committed to your plan and the rest is just execution.

I have used this in all the tournament games I have played in morristown. The first dark eldar game I shuffled to the left. I shifted right in my game against sisters of battle. The other necron player I played at the end of the first tournament got shuffled to the right even though he didn't pay any attention to it. The game against Bullet Sponge, I shifted right even with all of his force was on the right. The following game with orks saw my force shift to the right. Literally every game in this tournament saw me using the same tactic and no one has caught on yet. I need a new strategy. Something worthy of a bunch of pirates and broadsides...

Happy gaming everyone.

Grey Knights v. Tau

Okay so today Madival and I went down to our local Hobby Town for some Friday afternoon gaming and brought 1500 points worth of Grey Knights (me) and Tau. What followed was a hilarious example of good dice rolls and bad Tau leadership values. We rolled spearhead for deployment and kill points for game type. Since we didn't video the battle (more on why later) I will just give a brief run down of some of the highlights. Perhaps the best part of the entire match was the sheer amount of firepower my Stormraven managed to shrug off. It got unloaded on by two Hammerheads with railguns, two broadsides, plasma rifle and missile pods from Crisis teams and managed to cover save 7 vehicle destroyed results not to mention a handful of other nasty results on the old damage table. In what was perhaps my best dice rolling to date I managed to confound a huge amount of Tau shooting. Another great moment was when my ten man terminator blob got tank shocked by two hammerheads and promptly failed its leadership test and get chased into the middle of the board before having a chance to rally. This squad also soaked up an inordinate amount of firepower. Over all it was a really close game but in the end I managed to rout a Fire Warrior squad off the board and had Madival a much needed defeat!

Just a few thoughts about the Tau overall before I close this out. They need to be updated, bad. They are an awesome army with great models and background but low leadership can be fatal to them. Hopefully they will get some tlc in the near future.

Here is my list from the Game

HQ:
Grand Master: rad grenades, master crafted force sword

Troops:
Grey Knights Terminators: (5) psycannon, 2 halberds, 1 hammer

Grey Knights Terminators: (5) psycannon, 2 halberds, 1 hammer, brotherhood banner

Grey Knights Terminators: (10) psycannon, incinerator, 4 halberds, 1 hammer

Fast:

Stormraven: twin linked plasma cannons, twin linked multi melta, teleport homer

Heavy:

Nemesis Dreadknight: heavy incinerator, great hammer

And here are some pics

Lastly I want to say that over the next couple days we will be uploading several video battle reports including some Apocalypse goodness so make sure you all check it out!

Happy Gaming!!

Caution: My stupid idea of a lifetime

Caution: My stupid idea of a lifetime

Its been a week since I last posted. I didn't get to go to the tournament and I may not get to go to apocalypse. We have two video battel reports to bring to you later today. As a quick little blurb, today, I want to discuss a nerd trend. The argument of pirates versus ninjas. I never cared for this argument. It never seemed to matter to me and because of this, I was never included in any of them. Unfortunately, it seems that warhammer 40k has included me in pirates vs ninja. It has come in the form of Necron and Tau.
yarrr....
Necrons: The new book has turned out rather pirate like in my eyes. Slow, ponderous vehicles flying around broadsiding people, concealing their actions under night, generally playing dirty, and devastating opponents with cannon fire. Also, for some reason, ever time I say a pirate expression, something silly and fun happens. They are a lot of fun and the book is awesome. Especially since I want to theme my army off the Necron Mad Pirate king. The list remains the same. You just can't keep a good robot down

Broadsides, cannons, Night fight, and overlords with dirty tricks. Even manged to get grenades in the list (although they have never done anything). It is kind of fluffy without ever meaning to be.

Ninja Tau
Tau Empire: I am pulling out my old tau. I have 7 crisis suits, 6 stealth suits, 30 fire warriors, 2 devil fish, 2 hammer heads, and 2 broadsides. I have only ever heard people nickname them ninja tau as they are just jumping all over the place, shooting, and then jumping to safety. I may be running a mildly fluffy list Friday. When I first got them, they were fun, but just not my cup of tea. I have the entire army, so I will try it a few more times and see how it goes.

Tons of fire and killing action on the fly. Also, tons of vehicles cover saves since the local tournament doesn't have any terrain that will give a skimming vehicle a cover save. Has potential, but so far, hasn't been played. Pictures of the list will come later. also, 7  relentless plasma guns and 7 autocannons a turn will put the hurt on anyone.

Ok, I admit that the whole pirates versus ninjas thing was a stupid segue, but I needed a way to unveil my tau and all I ever hear is ninja tau. Also, I love doing pirate stuff with the necrons. It was a terrible idea, I know.
