Love/Hate

Ok one more thing. I have a love/hate opinion of sculpted banners. One the one hand it saves me the hours of screaming and cursing as I clumsily attempt to free hand a design (the language would make a sailor blush) yet on the other they pose their own set of frustrations. I am slowly getting this Brotherhood Banner finished so I can add him to the rest of my Paladins and stop looking at him every time I go to paint. The one thing I am pleased with is how the skulls at the very top of the banner pole have turned out. A layer of Bestial Brown over a chaos black under coat with Bleached Bone dry brushed over the brown. A simple way to give bone a weathered look. The main frustration of the banner (at least for me) is the lava between the cracked rock at the bottom and getting the red of the daeomon to stand out from the red of the banner. Anyways Happy Gaming!

Deathwing (no not the one from WOW)

Ok so Madival requested I put up a few pictures of models I am working on since apparently the painting urge is not upon him at the moment. These are work in progress Deathwing terminators for my Dark Angels/Deathwing army that Madival usually knocks around/plays. Dark Angles were my very first army of 40k that I started over 11 years ago and have collected ever since. The very early models reflect my paint skills at the time and the newer ones offer a nice measure of the modest progress I have made over the years. These guys are on the back burner at the moment due to the fact that I can only paint bleached bone for so long before my eyes start to bleed. Happy Gaming!

Introduction

Hi all! Just figured I would say hi and make a shameless plug for my own blog. My handle is thebob489 and I am a friend and now contributor of this site and its' main writer. I have also been the poor dope on the receiving end of Madival's necron aggression lol. I am generally not as strong a competitive player as Madival. I will upload my list from our battle this past Friday and offer some commentary on the game from my perspective. I will also post my thoughts about our frequent games and just offer general commentary. Anyways I am happy to be a contributor on the site and I will set Madival up on my blog as well.

Happy Gaming Everyone!

Things are getting better unless its necrons.

So things are getting better. Everything is OK and I even got to get some war hammer in this weekend.  Ended up running a Mighty Mighty Footcron list Friday. Gotta take it easy with necrons. They frustrated my opponent to no end. The only way to describe the game is like this. I had a squad of 20 warriors stand in the open with a res orb. They didnt move after turn 1. My royal court lord was in the front. At the end of the game, they glanced a vindicator who was shooting them into oblivion and then the lord was at the back because they were placed in front after they were gunned down. 14 guys leap frogged the lord. Now take that, and apply it to my 10 lychguard with chronometron, shield and power weapon and res orb overlord. They exploded anything they touched.  Even the wraiths , which I have never used or care to use again, did amazingly well.  When dice for necrons are hot, you get this
And imagine what the player opposite of necrons feel
It was really that bad last game.

All joking aside, this is not the army to take it easy on someone. I have had games where I made 13 of 13 reanimation protocol rolls on one Lychguard unit (585 points alone) . This is an army where one person beats squads. In fact, that is how I run my overlord now is as a one man wrecking crew with a Glasgow smile and a good old fashion red, white, and blue American paint job.
See, its true

at the same time, this dex is so random, that you can't take it easy on people short of forgetting stuff. I had one mind shackle scarab, res orb, war scythe lord kill 4 terminators before they stuck when his rolls were hot. Mind Shackle Scarabs caused 3 power fist hits/wounds and killed 3 guys only to have the necron lord kill the last guy. If you aren't on your game,  one model will beat you. My first game with my Terrain necrons saw 3 models, (orikan, ctan, overlord) cause 90% of my kills not caused by Writhing world scape. (unless you count  those for the ctan. in that case, it was 99% of the kills overall for my army).

TLDR- necron lists are hard to mess up because few models in the army have to perform, while the rest can simply die in a hole.

two last things. Since my necrons have annoyed my usual opponents a little, we have decided to do a game called Proxy Friday Mayham! (we misspelled mayhem because we like ham more). I am going to be running a Footdar list while my opponent is running something that I have no idea of. Game will be 1500 points and we will have a video battle report of all our shenanigans ready by Saturday. . The other thing is that I just got off the phone with Pat Higs over at 11th company pod cast. They did an interview with me about my Terrain necrons. I will either be on episode 108 or 109. Either way, Yay! that is all. Good night and good gaming

Remember. Pray to the dice gods, for only then can you claim they have forsaken you.

So things haven't been going well

So that past weekend, Monday, and Tuesday have , without a doubt, been the most rough and horrible days of my life. Turns out the tournament I was going to go to was next weekend. I traveled six hours for nothing. That  was the best part of the last 5 days. anyway, enough of my life. here is a quick blurb for everyone

I have a few video battle reports under my belt . Most of these are with a 1750 list that utilizes writhing worlds scape. I have caught flack for running a gimmick list some, but I disagree. I wish ago share with you guys my methodology behind this list.
Watch out for land sharks

Concept

The idea I use for my WW list requires decisive action. From turn one, my opponent must commit to an action or else risk not completing. Now, notice that damaging people with WW is no where on that list. That's because you must play with the idea that writhing world scape is not in play. You don't look at it as I am buying a WW ctan , but that you are buying WW for a ctan you were already Gonna buy. You are not taking origin the divine for time snares, but instead because he is an amazing strategic asset and a chance counter assault monster that forces people to think twice about actions. The more you make people pause, the more you let the mess up. Some people say this is bad, but it's how I see some aspects a of this list. People say you spend xxx points on the combo, but if that's only seeing part of the picture.

List building

Nothing in the list should require WW to work. I take doomsday arks because they spread people out to maximize small template hits and slow people down. They perform their job just fine without WW. Ctan is a great counter assault unit with gaze of death since it can snipe out important people such as that pesky power fist or sang priest. My overlord is decked with upgrades(phase shifter,Semp weave, war scythe, mss) because he is so difficult to take down, that he grabs units and holds them there often killing them. You get the general idea. Pretty much, synergy comes after use. ( strange for me to say such a thing)

Playing said list

When you play this list, you must think a lot. What avenues will allow you to take advantage of a plan your opponents set and how you are going to deal with certain elements. Example, one of my opponents was DoA blood rodeo. I knew he had the melta to demech me, so I used my strong counter assault elements ,( super orikan, overlord, and ctan) to eat his troops. Anyone dieing to WW was really just a bonus in the eyes of the clown king ( my Orikan). A plan was set, it was aggressive and thought out and executed well enough.

Fluff

For me, the writhing worldscape lists are quite fluffy. Ctan are extremely hard to control. Having Orikan , the foremost cryptek of time, allows you to mitigate the danger. Also, the list I run has nearly no military type units. I run warriors( the artisans). ghost arks (the collection ships) , crypteks (who mostly mold earth), orikan and ctan. The only military things are the overlord and his doomsday barges. I feel they are his clay pigeon target practice guns anyway or simply a demolish weapon

Conclusion

Writhing worlds scape can be a very powerful list in the right hands. Sure, you can get lucky lol dawn of war victories, but sometimes you get pitched battle against a parking lot and that's when WW list must shine. It must be thought out. It must be tactful. It must be tailored to your play style and as a net list, is an oddity that they work for some, but only if you build it.

My birthday and the week after

Yesterday, I turned 22. Had a great weekend with the family and loved ones. Now its time to prepare for The warhammer tournament that I have been getting my entire army painted for. I only really paint when I feel motivated. Unfortunately, I found out that the tournament has no painting requirements, so I will have to leave 4 vehicles unpainted as school as started to kick my after my birthday. My list as it stands is this.

I plan to go and have fun. Winning isn't important with this list. I want to see how well I can do of my own merit. If I do well, I know its because I am a good player and not because I could afford to bring razor back spam and draigowing/purfier spam things. I detest how cookie cutter tournament play is, which is why I will bring my own style to the game and see how it does. Unfortunately, this means no battle report this week and that I must miss my second open gaming night in a row which turns out to about a month not bieng in the local shop. I hate to do this, but I planned to go home and enjoy this tournament.Wish me the best of luck in my endevours as I will be bringing you a basic idea of how the tournament went when I return. .

List change and a game friday

So I have changed my list around. I feel this list is somewhat more appropriate for what it does and is less ridiculous as some of my other Necron lists. I am playing the Blood Angels player again Friday. Here is the list.

HQ
overlord- pharon, war scythe, semp weave, phase shifter, phylactry mind shackle scarabs

Royal court
2 lords war scythe, mind shackle scarabs, res orb

Troops
20 warriors ghost ark

20 warriors ghost ark

Heavy
Monolith

Monolith

The old phalanx Necrons

The idea is for the ghost arks to give cover and support to the warriors if needed. The characters are squad killers and the 2 lords go to each warrior squad to protect them from sweeping advance. 3 mind shackle scarabs, 7 war scythe attacks, and the res orb really makes them nasty. Add d3 warriors to the unit and relentless and you have a force that is nasty. At the same time, its small. Monoliths are added for mobility. Its an interesting list. Going to have another video battle report friday. Hope you guys enjoy it. Hopefully, it isn't to powerful, and its fun to play against.

On a side note, I have to go crazy painting these next to weeks for the Battle of Stone River. I have to paint 2 ghost arks, 2 doomsday arks, and 3 crypteks. Wish me luck
